Could be a NEW Cirque Act!??

Postby JW on Fri 16 Oct 2009 12:32pm

I was browsing around the net when I stumbled across this it's called Mallakhamb or Vertical Pole Gymnastics It is practiced a lot in India and it's a mixture of Chinese pole and hand balancing, but done in a extreme way. take a gander at it. :)

That does look really cool. And i could see that as an act in rotation maybe.

That is awesome. I really think with some refinement (and axing the pseudo-contortion he was trying for a second there) and Cirque could be all over this.

Wow! I can definitely see something like this in Cirque. I agree with Semisubtle, it did have a few rough spots, but I can definitely see Cirque putting something like this into their shows.

There is also a rope version that's note worthy.

There's a new video out on this pole

And Cirque should definitely hire the second guy!

I liked the first guy the best, but if added to a CDS show they would all need some serious choreography. They were all so fidgety on the pole thing, hold each position longer, they would get a much better response, even if this wasn't a show.

The Handbalancing act in Banana Shpeel had some elements of this if you think about it. For example when he does the flag/horizontal hang. I doubt it was connected to this or based on it, mostly just a similarity.
